Republican Network for Unity (RNU) is a working class, socialist, republican party that engages in practical politics, engendering localised political change in order to influence our national political agenda of creating an Irish republic for the people and by the people.
We began our journey in 2007 created by former Republican prisoners and committed activists, from our earliest incarnation we have strived to create unity among the Republican community, searching for common goals and working together. Committing to this path would later see the formation of the Irish Republican Congress forums, a vehicle which would be crucial in creating a unified support base for Political prisoners during their protests against the gaol administration and the British State.
One protest managed to bring the gaol administration to the table and signed the August 2010 agreement, which was never fulfilled and lead to a subsequent no wash/dirty protest in 2011. During this time RNU activists took the prison struggle outside and seized control of then Justice minister David Ford’s offices in Belfast and staged a sit down protest refusing to leave, all highlighting the plight of political prisoners in Maghaberry.
In 2013, alongside other Republicans and activists RNU protested against the G8 summit being held in county Fermanagh, affronted that a meeting of the global war criminals/capitalists of the day was happening on Irish soil, those who place profit before people and value life only in terms of finance. Even today we continue to hold protests against the global war machine, NATO, with protest regularly held by our Cork Cumann.
Continually we have fought in the interest of the Irish people, none more evident than the time we protested fervently against the water meters in the 26 counties, which seen large scale protests in the ten of thousands get on the street in a real show of solidarity and people power.
We have been to the forefront of the homelessness crisis, not merely providing materials to help those forces onto the streets, but we have actively slept of the streets ourselves in areas that aren’t effected so obviously by homelessness in an effort to highlight the national crisis particularly in Dublin City.
Since our formation we have been an active ally to the LGBTQ+ community, work that we are still active in today.
In more recent times we have actively recreated a campaign for the Craigavon 2, Brendan and John Paul are both innocent men wrongly convicted of actions the were not involved in, we will continue this work until the injustice is brought to an end. #JFTC2
One of the main ethos’ of our party is community empowerment, by empowering the work class communities we hope to create a new political consciousness which will one day help to liberate our people and enshrine our nations sovereignty as a whole.
Understanding our history and our legitimate right to the expression of our Gaelic language and culture and we are committed to promoting and enchancing it at every possible opportunity and helping our communities embrace it lessening the British influence within our communities.
Again understanding and analysing our history has given us the opportunity to explore and exploit constitutional change in Ireland through our Time to change campaign which is analysing the potential for constitutional change via a referendum on Irish unity.
