MI5 Subversion and Sinn Féin’s Complicity.

The disclosure that MI5 unlawfully accessed the personal data of journalist Vincent Kearney should not come as a shock to Republicans. It is simply the latest in a long record of Britain’s intelligence apparatus operating above its own laws and with impunity in Ireland.

For generations, MI5 has engaged in covert surveillance, intimidation, and infiltration, all aimed at suppressing Irish Republican resistance and ensuring the continuation of partition.

The true scandal is twofold, not only that MI5 once again acted without restraint, but that Sinn Féin now feign outrage at a system they themselves have helped entrench.
While Sinn Féin spokespeople fill the airwaves with scripted indignation, they do so from inside Stormont, the British institution and apparatus that secures MI5’s authority and normalises the continued occupation of our land.

Their words ring hollow when the very political framework they endorse provides MI5 with its shield of legitimacy.
When ordinary Republicans are stopped and searched, when families are visited at their doors, when young people are pressured to inform on their community, or when whole families live under constant surveillance, Sinn Féin does not raise its voice. Their selective criticism only emerges when the victim is a journalist, when it is safe to posture, when their position within British structures remains undisturbed.
MI5 is not some rogue agency. It is, and has always been, a core instrument of British state power in Ireland. What has changed is Sinn Féin’s stance, once a party that positioned itself as a spearhead against repression, it now acts as a guarantor of the institutions that protect MI5 and enable its activities.

Éire Nua rejects without hesitation both MI5’s campaign of harassment and the hypocrisy of those who claim to oppose it while administering the very system that sustains it. True resistance cannot be mounted from within the Stormont chamber. It cannot be selective, occasional, or self-serving. It requires consistency, courage, and a willingness to re-confront British rule at its root, qualities long abandoned by those who traded principle for position.

We also say to all young people in our community, the Kings shilling won’t last long, but your betrayal and indignity will last forever should you engage with the British intelligence apparatus.
